Safeguarding Statement

At St John’s Beaumont independent preparatory school, we believe that children have a right to feel safe. We recognise that this is when they can make the most progress in their learning; confidently develop positive relationships with adults and their peers; and have high self-esteem.

The Jesuit Pupil Profile and the ethos this generates within the school contribute to positive outcomes for all our children. Important factors include:

  • positive teacher-pupil relationships and attitudes
  • clear consistent boundaries
  • high expectations of pupils’ behaviour and efforts
  • the TYEs reward system
  • pupil voice, through a range of committees and individual opportunities
  • active responsibilities for senior pupils
  • a strong emphasis on academic work
  • a strong emphasis on sport, the arts and the breadth of the co-curricular experience.

These attributes are underpinned by a clear values base, which advocates mutual trust, integrity, acceptance of difference and encouragement.

All members of the school staff undertake regular safeguarding training and we avoid any complacency: we work from the assumption that safeguarding issues can arise for any pupil or adult here.

In the recruitment of staff, the School follows safer recruitment guidance and undertakes thorough safeguarding checks: the same is true for volunteers and other adults with whom the children come into contact.

Further information is available in the school’s Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy, which is available in the Policies area of this website.
