Announcement of our Incoming Deputy Head Academic, Sian Dawson
An introduction from incoming Head Master Elect, Mr Andrew De Silva:

I am delighted to introduce Mrs Sian Dawson as our Deputy Head Academic from September 2026. Currently Deputy Head Academic at Hatherop Castle, Mrs Dawson brings considerable experience in leading academic development across the independent sector, having worked in a wide range of contexts, from highly selective to non-selective schools, and in both single sex and co-educational environments.
Having previously been Director of Studies at Oxford High School and as an experienced ISI inspector, Sian brings a depth of understanding to her work that is both academically robust and strategic. She is thoughtful and forward-looking in her approach, with a genuine commitment to evolving both curriculum and pastoral care, particularly through co-education, outdoor learning, and a wider emphasis on character, society and service.
Sian is a strong advocate for high expectations and has a proven ability to cultivate a culture in which academic excellence is both ambitious and inclusive. She also brings a strong track record in preparing children for senior school transfer at 13+, with a deep understanding of scholarship pathways and a history of securing a wide range of awards for pupils.
Her leadership has been reflected in a number of highly successful inspections, including the final double excellent judgement. Mrs Dawson’s significant experience will be a great asset to St John’s Beaumont and will build on the excellent foundations established by the current leadership, as we continue to develop and strengthen the academic life of the school. There will be opportunities to meet Mrs Dawson in due course, and I know that she is very much looking forward to becoming part of the community.
Following her appointment as Deputy Head Academic, Mrs Sian Dawson reflects on what drew her to St John’s Beaumont:
I am thrilled to have been appointed as Deputy Head Academic of St John’s Beaumont from September. The school’s commitment to combining a rich, century-old heritage with a forward-thinking, long-term approach to learning resonates deeply with my belief that prep school life should be both purposeful and joyful. It is a privilege to help cultivate an environment where curiosity, confidence, and character are allowed to flourish alongside rigorous academic achievement. I look forward to working closely with pupils, staff and the Head Master, as we honour and develop this cherished school’s impressive legacy of excellence.
