Our Verse Speaking Final

Last week, pupils from across the school took to the stage for our annual Verse Speaking Final. We were pleased to welcome Mr David Gibbons, Head of English at Eton College, who joined us as this year’s judge and offered thoughtful feedback to our performers.

Throughout the event, pupils presented their chosen pieces with clarity, confidence and evident preparation. Their performances reflected the work they have put into developing their speaking and interpretation skills over the term.

Results

  • Junior Winner — Aaryan P. — Sonnet 116
  • Intermediate Joint Winners — Andrew W. — Hot Food and Georgy S. — Henry V’s Soliloquy
  • Senior Winner — Noah D.-A. — How I Rise
  • Overall Winner — Andrew W. — Hot Food

A special mention goes to Andrew W., whose progress has been particularly impressive. When he first joined St John’s, his English-speaking ability was limited, making his success in both the Intermediate and Overall categories a notable achievement.

Thank you to all families, staff and pupils who supported the event. We are proud of every participant for the confidence and enthusiasm they brought to the stage.
