As announced last week, the Red Chair month is here and we’ll be able to help our boys raise funds for the Nekemte school with their very own projects and ideas. This is how you can help:

- Get your shoes shining! Shoes will be polished on Friday the 23rd and Thursday the 29th at pick up.
- Sow a seed for Education! Buy your own planting kit and help the environment and the children of Nekemte in one go. Planting kits will be on sale on Thursday the 29th and Monday the 3rd at pick up.
- Get active! Run, cycle, swim from SJB to Nekemte with the WINDSOPIA project and play football with your friends in a 5-a-side tournament. More information to follow!
Nekemte School Project
All funds raised by the boys will go towards building the Nekemte School in Ethiopia, an amazing project that is being sponsored by the Sacred Heart Church in Sunningdale. Please click here to find out more.
About the Nekemte School Project
The Nekemte Town, is in the western part of Ethiopia, 335 km from Addis Ababa. It is one of the most underdeveloped cities in the country. There are thousands of children from poor backgrounds who cannot afford their own teaching materials, clothing or even food to eat, but are desperate to get an education for a brighter future.
Although important progress has been made in Ethiopia, more needs to be done. More than ten percent of Ethiopian children have not been enrolled in primary education and the completion rate of those children in primary education is less than fifty percent. The enrolment rate decreases to below forty percent in lower secondary education.
The Catholic Church Apostolic Vicariate of Nekemte is a non-profit organisation who believe that every child, boys and girls alike, should be able to complete a full course of primary schooling. They have been involved in the education sector since 1919, helping disadvantaged and vulnerable children. Their general objective of this project is to build an eco-friendly school facility, providing an education, protection and nurturing for 1,150 pupils, within the age of 4 to 18 years old, in the town of Nekemte.
Their first phase of the infrastructure has been completed and with permission and funding the school hopes to open their doors in September 2023.
The charity relies on the kindness and generosity of individuals around the world, so any help you can give is much appreciated.
