PSHE
Personal, Social, Health and Economics education (PSHE) covers the important and necessary parts of all student learning; equipping them with a sound understanding of risk along with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to make safe and informed decisions. Included in these lessons, for Year 7 and 8 pupils, is Relationships and Sex Education (RSE). At St John’s Beaumont we aim to provide a progressive and spiral approach to PSHE learning.
We believe that RSE and PSHE education allows our pupils to:
- Develop the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to stay healthy and safe
- Consider what constitutes a healthy and fulfilling relationship
- Build respect for themselves and others
- Expand their independence and responsibility
- Strive to reach their full potential and support others to reach theirs
The broad topic areas covered from Year 1 to 8 are:
- Families and Relationships
- Respecting Ourselves and Others
- Physical Health and Wellbeing
- Keeping Safe
- Growing and Changing
- Belonging to a Community
- Money and Work
- Media literacy and digital resilience
PSHE is incorporated within the EYFS learning strands which are:
- Self- confidence and self- awareness
- Managing feelings and behaviour
- Making relationships
- Families and people who care for me
