SJB MAGAZINE SUMMER 2021
Dear Parents, Guardians and Old Boys,
It does not seem long at all since we last wrote to you at the start of our most recent school magazine, but such has been the pace of life, globally and at St John’s, that we find ourselves with a great deal that we would like to share with you all.
Wherever you are in the world, we hope this latest edition of the magazine finds you safe and well, riding the crest of a wave following a turbulent year. Those of you that know St John’s well will also know that like many other Jesuit schools, we are hard-wired to see a challenge as something ultimately positive and an opportunity to evolve and flourish. Entering my 17th year as Headmaster of St John’s, I cannot remember any single one that compares in terms of innovation, energy or optimism to this year and I must pay tribute to our wonderful boys and staff as well as our families who have each played more than their part in this journey.
There have been countless examples of selflessness, compassion and an instinctive sense of generosity that has established itself in the minds of so many. I am enormously proud and confident of our young men for the future: their sense of purpose, open-mindedness, optimism and integrity are exactly the characteristics upon which I hope all of our futures will be built. Their sense of adventure never dims, nor their willingness to try something new: a mindset that has been crucial to the success of the past 12 months.
I hope you enjoy reading the following pages and see for yourself a little of what the boys and their teachers have been up to over the past few months.
