SJB SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS – MICHAELMAS 2021

On 15th November 2021, at 5 pm, all boys that had qualified throughout the term came out of the changing rooms, ready to swim for the Michaelmas term title. Despite the eerie silence, the atmosphere was buzzing, and all the swimmers from years 6,7 and 8 wanted a medal or even the Victor Ludorum.

The first races kicked off with U11 Backstroke and were shortly followed by U12s and U13. There may have been no parents watching (due to Covid-19), but the atmosphere was great, with all the boys cheering and shouting each other on. The next race was Breastroke, which caused confusion and fear, as well as excitement throughout the boys. This was quickly followed by freestyle, where every boy put all his energy into power and drive.

Finally, it was butterfly, which was 25m for U11 and 50m for U12 and U13. This concluded the racing, and now the boys patiently awaited the results. After a couple of minutes of quick maths by Mr Walsh, the results were in, and the winners of each race came up to claim their medals.

This term’s Victor Ludorum was awarded to K. Wang in Year 6, Josh C in Year 7, and Thomas M, the swimming captain, in Year 8. After a tasty match-tea, the boys headed home, exhausted by the championships, for a good night’s sleep.

Well done to all the boys! I am extremely proud of your achievements.
