WELCOME TO ISSUE #2 OF SJB TOGETHER
Dear Parents – Welcome to issue #2 of SJB Together.
Thank you ever so much for your positive feedback following the first edition: I’m delighted to hear how much engagement we have enjoyed from the school community and beyond and I hope you derive equal enjoyment from this addition.
Again, my grateful thanks go to everybody who has contributed in whatever way to the past week and there have been some wonderful highlights which you will soon read about. There are three that particularly spring to mind;
Firstly, the wonderful Verse Speaking competition that was held last night. My very sincere congratulations go to all of the finalists and winners but even more importantly to those boys who did not reach the final, but whose strong performances raised the bar for everybody.
Secondly, my grateful thanks go to our wonderful Head Boy and Deputy Head Boy Aaron and Charlie who run yesterday’s assembly. They rallied the Middle and Upper School tremendously well in a congregational rendition of the school hymn which was wonderful to see (and hear!).
Lastly, I wanted to pay tribute to the enormous number of boys who are regularly taking and even creating opportunities outside of school, both of an educational and also outreach dimension. We are so fortunate to have a community that is so supportive of each other and the boys’ conduct and actions on a daily basis remind me of this.
I am acutely aware though that our support for each other can and should take all manner of paths and not all of these can or will be easily or publicly recognised. I want therefore to thank everyone in our St John’s community for their support in whatever way it is being given. In all my years as Headmaster, (and there are now enough of these upon which I can draw), there have been few times that have left me as proud of our boys, and the young men they are growing into, then the past 6 weeks.
Whatever the future holds for us, either online or here in person, long may it continue.
Wishing you all a peaceful and relaxed half-term.
Giles Delaney
