Admissions at St John’s Beaumont

John’s Beaumont is a leading day and boarding prep school for boys and girls aged 3 to 13.

We welcome children who are curious, engaged, and eager to learn, providing a supportive environment where they can reach their full potential and thrive academically, socially, and personally.

The usual points of entry are into Nursery from 3 years of age, Reception (4+), Year 3 (7+) and Year 7 (11+). However, we will always consider applications for other year groups when needed and spaces are available, ensuring flexibility for families.

Taster & Assessment

All children are invited to a taster or assessment day and a have a family interview with the Headteacher.

For pupils applying to Pre-Prep (Nursery to Year 2), a taster session will include an informal assessment by the respective class teacher. This assessment is designed to place each child at ease and allow us to observe them in as natural environment as possible. We are eager to see how each individual learns, meets new challenges and interacts socially with their peers.

Prospective pupils for Years 3 and above will be invited to spend the day with their peer group and undertake assessments in Maths and English which are overseen by our SEND department prior to spending the remainder of the day in class with their peers, again allowing us the opportunity to see how they interact with their peers and respond to new challenges and opportunities.

Applicants for boarding are invited to spend one or two nights at St John’s to give them the chance to experience boarding first hand.

All families are invited for a meeting with the Headteacher, Mr Barr.

Acceptance

In the days following your child’s visit to St John’s we will contact you to see how you felt they got on, as well as to provide you with feedback from our observations from the day.

An offer of a place will be formalised in writing from the Headteacher. A completed Acceptance form and deposit must be received within 14 days to confirm the child’s place.

International Candidates

St John’s Beaumont is a licensed UKVI sponsor and is able to support a Child Student Visa application.

International candidates (aged over 9 years) are required to sit the UKiset overseas pupil assessment at a local testing centre and will be invited for interview either at the school or online.

The purpose of the UKiset test is to ensure candidates are able to access the curriculum and have a satisfactory level of spoken and written English. St John’s Beaumont is not purely an academically selective school, however our selection process is designed to identify candidates who will benefit from our balanced and well-rounded education and who will also make a positive contribution to the wider life of the school.

SEND

If a child requires any learning support needs, the School must be made aware prior to assessment to ensure the pupil’s needs can be met within its planned resources.

Induction Days

If your child is joining in Pre-Prep in September, we’ll invite both you and your child to an induction afternoon and tea in late June. Families with children joining into Middle & Upper School (Year 3 and above) will be invited for an induction afternoon and tea in the week prior to school returning in September. Boarders, new and returning, are welcomed back on the days prior to the academic year commencing to engage in settling in and team-building activities.
