Sports & Swimming

Children participating, enjoying and contributing to a wide variety of sports is extremely important to their daily routine. It is widely recognised that a healthy lifestyle contributes enormously to a child’s sense of achievement and happiness.

It is however important that pupils are offered a variety of sports in which they can compete. Doing so widens the scope for children of all abilities to contribute to the life of the school and also encourages a wider range of sporting skills.

In addition to internal practice sessions and animal (house) competitions, all students from Years 3-8 annually play in excess of 350 competitive fixtures across a range of sporting codes versus other schools. This affords them numerous opportunities to learn the values mirrored in the game of school and life, which we aim to nurture.

Physical Education (PE) and Games play a role in allowing the students at St John’s Beaumont to flourish, physical, socially and mentally – key to our core principle as a Jesuit School of cura personalis.

  • gymnastics

In the swimming pool the children learn water safety and how to float before learning the key swimming strokes.

YEARS 3-8

For Years 3-8 we aim to provide a more varied curriculum, all pupils will take part in swimming lessons which run alongside:

  • basketball
  • indoor hockey
  • badminton
  • tennis
  • athletics
Games

From September to February we focus largely on rugby as our main team sport.

From February to March we then play football.

During the summer months cricket is the main team sport.

Alongside this, the School’s swimming, tennis, athletics and basketball train and compete at regular intervals. We also prepare teams to participate in local and regional hockey, golf, indoor rowing and badminton.

Swimming

St John’s Beaumont is fortunate to have a a 25m heated pool on site.

Children from Nursery through to Year 8 benefit from weekly, in class swimming lessons. Additionally, pupils in Middle School and above are invited to optional development training two mornings per week.

From Year 1 onwards, each year group has a dedicated swim squad training. Our swim team compete in frequent galas, both at home and away, with a proven record of fantastic IAPS results.
