LAMDA

What is LAMDA?

LAMDA stands for The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, a world-leading performing arts school in London which was founded in 1861. LAMDA offers a wide range of exams in Communication and Performance which are open to external students. At St John’s Beaumont we currently offer LAMDA exams in Public Speaking, Acting, Verse and Prose, Mime and Shakespeare.

Our 30 minute lessons take place once a week during the course of the school day, they are usually one-to-one but can also be taken in pairs. Taking LAMDA lessons and working towards a LAMDA exam is hugely beneficial to children as the exams are designed to develop life skills, such as clear communication, self-confidence, concentration, empathy and teamwork through the creative platforms of drama and literature. The exams also offer students the opportunity to improve self-expression, strengthen memory and of course, have lots of fun along the way!

Thinking ahead, LAMDA can really contribute to senior school scholarship applications and beyond that, university…Pupils can earn UCAS points with their LAMDA Exams, claiming points for each qualification at Grade 6 and above.
